Things to Watch For

Be sure to visit any facility or service you are considering. Make an appointment to visit but also just "drop in" to see how the facility functions when not prepared for a visit.

Ask these questions:

  • Is the home care agency licensed for the care they provide?
  • Are home health providers bonded?
  • Is the assisted living facility licensed?
  • How many staff are available at any time?
  • Is the facility clean and safe?
  • Can special dietary needs be met?
  • If this is assisted living is a skilled nursing unit available if the patients condition worsens and more care is needed?
  • What activities are available?
  • What are the visiting hours
  • Does the facility provide names references?

If a facility does not feel right, keep on looking.
