Everyone will age differently and will have different needs for care as they age. The changes of aging may require different levels of care as aging advances. The challenge is finding the appropriate level of care needed that helps to maintain as much independence and dignity as is possible.

Independent Living
Many Seniors can remain independent in their own homes with minimal support . Services like Meals-On-Wheels, which deliver full meals daily, are available in most cities, for a reasonable cost. An added benefit is having someone checking on the senior on a regular basis. If the senior who is to receive the meal cannot be located at home the agency providing the service will contact family or friends to have them check up on the senior. Many of these same agencies have volunteers who can provide services such as minor home repairs and transportation to medical appointments etc. Many churches offer similar programs with senior visitation and support.

Home Health Care
Many seniors are able to remain in their own homes with some nursing care to assist with medical procedures or personal care. Most home health agencies are able to provide help for everything from assistance with bathing right on up to full care of tube feedings, urinary catheters and complicated wound dressings. Home care for personal care such as bathing, feeding and supervision for safety is usually not covered by insurance or Medicare. Services ordered by a physician and considered medical, may be covered.

Assisted Living
Assisted living can encompasses a wide range of care from assistance with activities of daily living right through nursing home care. The latest trend is to have all needs covered in a single facility. Seniors can move in when they are still active and independent, but just wanting to give up worrying about meals and laundry etc. As time passes and care needs increase, these needs can be met in the same facility. Choosing this type of facility can help to reduce stress during times of illness.
