Take Charge of Your Breast Cancer
by John S. Link, M.D.

Guide Rating -

Once you are over the shock and dismay of receiving the news that you have breast cancer, confusion often sets in. This book by Dr. John Link can help women with breast cancer in making the right decisions for their health.

According to Dr. Link a significant number of women with breast cancer are not getting the proper care for their unique bout of cancer. Because of this many are compromising their chance of cure and for their quality of life during treatment and after. This book puts all the medical jargon and complicated treatments into language that a lay person can understand. Dr. Link believes that every women deserves individualized and integrated treatment and encourages questioning health care providers and asking for second opinions when they feel uncomfortable.

Dr. Link is a practicing internist and oncologist and is medical director of the Pacific Coast Breast Center in Torrance, California. He is able in this book to share his vast knowledge of the treatments available. He also shares his own personal experiences with breast cancer through the experiences of his sister who was diagnosed at age 49.

I liked this book and felt that it would be a valuable resource for any woman who is fighting this disease. It deals with the disease from not only the clinical perspective in the chapter "Demystifying the Disease", but to the human aspect of the disease in chapter four "Treating the Whole Woman". If you have breast cancer this book can help you to get the best treatment possible.
