Brand Name - Sporanox®

Generic Name - itraconazole

FDA Drug Classification - antifungal

Action - taken orally it treats the fungus systemically

Adverse Effects -

  • headache, dizziness, sleepiness
  • hypertension
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • rash, pruritus

Precautions - Should not be used by:

  • patients allergic to the drug
  • patients recieving another antifungal drug
  • nursing women

Interactions -

  • certain antihistamines such as astemizole, cisapride, terfenadine
  • cylosporine, digoxin
  • h2-reciptor antagonists, antiacids, rifampine, phenytoin
  • oral anticoagulants
  • oral antidiabetic agents
