Intermittant Claudication

Definition: Severe pain in the calf muscles that occurs while walking, but subsides with rest. It is caused by an inadequate blood supply. The decreased blood supply may be due to arterial spasm, artherosclerosis, atherosclerosis, or an occlusion (blockage).
Pronunciation: klaw-di-ka'shun
Also Known As: lameness, exercise pain
Common Misspellings: intermitent cladication
Examples: The patient is unable to walk for any distance without experiencing severe leg pain due to Intermittant Claudication.
