All Tobacco Bad

Sunday August 20, 2006
A study in the Lancet medical journal confirms what we have been hearing for years; all forms of tobacco consumption including smoking, chewing and passive intake through second-hand smoke increase the risk of heart attack. The risk is greatest for heavy smokers who have almost three times the risk compared to non-smokers. Those who chew tobacco and smoke less than 10 cigarettes daily have twice the risk of heart attack. The authors say that public health agencies should increase their efforts to educate on the dangers of smoking and keep people from starting smoking and helping smokers quit.
