Alzheimer's Skin Test

Tuesday August 15, 2006
Reasearchers may have discovered way to develop a skin test for Alzheimer's Disease. The scientists found certain enzymes that react abnormally in the skin of people who have Alzheimer's disease. The research tested the reactions on skin of patients who had died of various diseases including Huntington's disease, Parkinsons and Alzheimer's. The reaction on the skin of those who had died of documented Alzheimer's was markedly different; enough to conclude this could be an accurate diagnostic tool.

Early detection of this disease would make it easier to start drug therapy early, when it is most effective.
