Early Diagnosis of Macular Degeneration Linked to Increased Stroke Risk

A study has found that those with early-stage Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) have a 50% greater chance of having an ischemic stroke, caused by a blood clot to the brain. AMD is the leading cause of blindness among older adults. Researchers feel that anyone diagnosed with AMD should be monitored for signs of impending stroke.
