Drink Up?
Monday July 24, 2006
A news report from the U.S. Institute on Aging and the University of Florida found that men and women aged 70 to 79 who drank one to seven alcoholic drinks a week had a significantly lower risk of heart problems or death than those who didn't partake of alcoholic beverages. Researchers also found that the reasons for this effect were not clear. They did caution that recommendations on alcohol intake should follow careful study of the risks involved and could include interactions with medications and addiction.
Seniors should be especially careful not to over indulge with alcohol as it could increase the risk of falls and injury.
