Health Care Rationing

What happens if another great flu pandemic occurs and there is not enough vaccine for everyone? Who decides who gets vaccinated and who does not? Two bioethics experts from the NIH discuss this in a recent paper in the journal Science. They argue that current guidelines may not be the best way to treat an epidemic that could sicken 90 million people in the United States alone. Currently children under age 2 and adults over 65 and those with chronic illness have top priority for vaccine. Should the guidelines be reexamined?
