Old Fashioned Soap the Best for Handwashing
Sunday October 23, 2005
I had a discussion a while back with some colleagues about the merits of regular soap versus the antibacterial hand washes that are available. My opinion at that time was that soap and water was the best choice, saving those antibacterial gels for those times when you do not have access to running water. Now an FDA panel has confirmed what I have thought all along - thorough hand washing with soap and running water is just as effective, and may be safer for the environment and could prevent bacteria from becoming resistant to an important chemical.
