That extra heavy drinking (alcohol) many engage in as they celebrate holidays or special events may exact a heavier toll than just a hangover the next morning. A study has found that heavy drinkers (4-5 drinks per day or 35 drinks a week) increase the risk of developing atrial fibrillation a potentially dangerous heart rhythm abnormality. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of blood clots developing that can travel to the brain and cause stroke.
