Dangerous Pain Meds

A study from Canada shows that the Cox2 type of pain medication is much more likely to cause heart attack in older adults than other types of NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) drugs. The study found that the overall risk for first heart attack was 24% higher among those who used Vioxx (now off the market in the US) than for those using non-Cox2 type medications such as Ibuprophen. NSAID's are used extensively in treating arthritis pain.
